Origin/meaning

The arms were officially adopted on April 2, 1970.

The crossed keys are the symbol of St. Peter and refer to the important Abbey of St. Peter. The chief shows the French Royal arms.

The previous or alternative arms (see below) are identical to the arms of the Abbey of St. Peter in Corbie.

Blason de Corbie

The raven in the arms is canting (Corbeau in French) for the village of Corbie, the crosiers stand for the abbey, the keys for St. Peter. The arms are also used by the Belgian municipality of Houthulst, as the abbey has considerable possessions in that area.
