Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
AFFALTRACH
State : Baden-Württemberg
District (Kreis) : Heilbronn
Incorporated into : 1972 Obersulm
Origin/meaning
the arms were officially granted on November 10, 1967.
The arms show a croos for the Order of St. John as the village was a longtime possession of the Order.
The previous arms were proposed in 1914 but adopted only in 1928.
These arms combined a canging element, an apple tree (Affoltern is old German for apple tree) with the cross of the Order. The municipality, however, was not too pleased with the apple tree and thus asked for only a cross.
