Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 1, 1993.

The St. Andrew's cross alludes to the patron saint of the city, the arrows represent the Indians, first inhabitants of the region and the bees are symbolic of work, evoking the hardships of the first settlers.

The supporters show that sugar cane and corn are important agricultural products of the region.

The shield is surmounted by a mural crown appropriate to a city and a scroll below the shield bears the name of the city.
