Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Germany - Deutsche Wappen (Gemeindewappen/Kreiswappen) |
OBERBARNIM
State : Brandenburg
Incorporated into : 1952 Bad Freienwalde (1993 Märkisch Oderland)
Origin/meaning
The arms were granted in 1929 and showed in the upper half the eagle of Brandenburg and in the lower a red field. The arms were abolished in 1945.
From 1947-52 the district used the arms shown above. The silver and red field of the old arms were now quartered. The fish in the lower left corner symbolise the fisheries and nature in the Oderbruch. The meaning of the small shield I do not know. The wheat ears symbolise the importance of agriculture.
