SNÆFELLSNES- OG HNAPPADALSSÝSLA

Arms of Snæfellsnes-og Hnappadalssýsla

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The arms depict the hammer of Thor, the pagan god of thunder. Before Iceland was united into one state in the year 930, with a universal parliament for the whole country, the people of this area had already had their own parliament and law for some time. The gathering place was at a peninsula called “Þórsnes” or Thor's Peninsula.
