Heraldry of the World Civic heraldry of Austria - Österreichische Gemeindewappen |
IMST
State : Tirol
District : Imst
Origin/meaning
The arms were officially granted on November 6, 1898.
The arms first appear on the local seal of the city in 1653, but a colour image already is known from a roll fo arms from 1610. When the arms were officially granted is no longer known, in 1898 they were confirmed and regranted.
The arms probably date from the 16th century and show the arms of Austria combined with the cross of the Hohenstaufen family, rulers of the area in the 13th century when Imst was founded.
