SCHAFFHOUSE-PRÈS-SELTZ

Département : Bas-Rhin

Armoiries de Schaffhouse-près-Seltz

Official blazon

Taillé: au 1er mi-taillé de gueules à l'épée d'argent, garnie d'or posée en bande, au 2e d'argent à la crosse d'azur mouvant de la pointe.

Origin/meaning

The arms refer to the patron saint of the village, St. Martin. He cut his cloak in two pieces to give half to a beggar. Hence the division of the shield (compare Utrecht in the Netherlands), and the sword. As he was bishop of Tours, the lower half shows a crosier. The colours are the colours of the Alsace region.
