Origin/meaning
The arms were devised in 1931 and granted in 1933. The arms are based on a 17th century seal of the village. The lion is the canting arms of the Lords of Löwenstein (lion-stone) who ruled the village from 1528-1623 and again after 1649. They held the village as vassals of the Counts of the Pfalz, which is shown in the arms of the Wittelsbach family, Counts of the Pfalz and Dukes of Bayern. The hawk is canting (Habicht in German).
The arms by Hupp in the Kaffee Hag albums +/- 1925 |
Literature: Stadler, 1964-1971, 8 volumes.
