Escudo de verde, castelo de prata, lavrado, aberto e frestado de negro, firmado num monte de cinco cômoros de ouro, realçados de negro; em chefe, anel de ouro, com pedra de rubi e, em ponta, uma burela ondeada de azul. Coroa mural de prata de quatro torres. Listel branco com a legenda a negro, em maiúsculas : “ SORTELHA “.

Origin/meaning

The arms were officially granted on February 2, 1998.

The castle refers to the medieval castle in the village. The ring is a symbol for the tournamens held at the castle in medieval times, where knights had to shoot arrows through a ring as target.

The mountains refer to the local mountains an dthe base shows the Liz river that runs through the village.
