LOUIS DICAIRE
Born: August 29, 1946
Deceased:
Auxiliary Bishop of Montréal, 1999-2004
Auxiliary Bishop of Saint-Jean-Longueuil, 2004-present
English | blazon wanted |
Origin/meaning
The sheaf of wheat illustrates the extent of the harvest and prefiguring the Eucharist. The golden book of the Word of God illuminated by the flame of the Holy Spirit draws inspiration from the writing and guides its interpretation.
The lower half of the arms is inspired by an episode of the Gospel according to St. Luke (5: 1-7). It shows the first apostles who had been fishing for a whole night to return empty handed to the farm. It was then that Jesus requisitioned Peter's boat to teach the people who had come running in great numbers, eager to hear the word of God. When the teaching was over, Jesus said to Peter, "Go out to sea and lay your nets for fishing." Peter, recognizing that he had done nothing until that moment, obeyed Jesus all the same and returned to fishing. They took so many fish that the nets broke.
On the coat of arms appears, against a background of azure (navy), Peter's boat which begins to fill with fish.
The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop by instruction of the Holy See, of March 1969, confirmed in March 2001.
