EDWARD VINCENT DARGIN
Born: April 25, 1898
Deceased: April 20, 1981
Auxiliary Bishop of New York, 1953-1973; Titular Bishop of Amphipolis
English | blazon wanted |
Vert, a griffin segreant erminois, holding in the sinister talon a cross patonce or, on a chief of the last a tower triple towered supported by two lions rampant gules. Motto "Totum Trahere In Cor Tuum".
Origin/meaning
The griffin is taken from the arms of some Irish Dargin family and is used here to symbolise the last name of the bishop. The cross in the talon of the griffin is a charge on the coat of arms of St. Edward the Confessor, the baptismal patron of Bishop Dargin. Although St. Edward the Confessor antedated heraldry, nevertheless, a coat of arms bearing this cross patonce between five martlets was posthumusly assigned to hill by his successors.
The spotting of the golden griffin with ermine is for patronage to Cardinal Francis Joseph Spellman to whom he served as Auxiliary Bishop.
The chief is taken from the arms of some Kelly family and is used here to represent the family name of the mother of the bishop.
The motto means To draw all things to your heart.
