According to legend the arms were granted in the 15<sup>th</sup> century by Emperor Friedrich III, but no historical proof thereof exists. The oldest known seal dates from the 17<sup>th</sup> century and shows the above composition of pine tree (Tanne) and castle (for Hausen, house).
