Origin/meaning

The County Schaumburg was a small county located in the present-day German state of Niedersachsen. It existed as an independent territory until 1640 when it was divided by the County Schaumburg-Lippe and Hessen-Kassel. Capitals were Bückeburg and Stadthagen.

The arms show a swan, derived from the arms of the medieval Lords of Steinfurt (1129-1421).
