Origin/meaning

The arms were granted on September 2, 1818 and confirmed on April 13, 1838.

The arms show the arms of the Lords of Leeuwergem with an additional crown to distinguish the arms from the family and the municipality. The last Lord of Leeuwergem was Robert II, who died in 1288.
