RAYMOND WILLIAM LESSARD

Born : December 21, 1930
Deceased : January 3, 2016

Bishop of Savannah, 1973-1995

Arms (crest) of Raymond William Lessard

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

As common in US episcopal heraldry, the arms show the arms of the diocese impaled with the personal arms of the bishop.

The garb of wheat represents all the Lessards ancestors who have been farmers. And also represents the Diocese of Fargo where he was born and ordained. There is no explanation of the further symbols on the diocesan website.

The achievement is completed with the heraldic insignia of a prelate of the rank of bishop by instruction of the Holy See, of March 1969, confirmed in March 2001.
