The first quarter shows the arms of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit to which the bishop belonged. The second and third quarter symbolise a piano. This symbol indicates that black and white always have to work together in harmony. They are reversed in the different quarters and also form the letter E, the initial of the last name of the bishop. The fourth quarter is the symbol of St. Mary, to which the bishop had a strong devotion. The motto is also reflecting this.
