Origin/meaning

The town is named for Henry Somerset, 2nd Duke of Beaufort, who became one of Carolina's Lords Proprietor around 1709. The town arms show the arms of Henry Somerset Dukebeaufort.jpg, but the two lower quarters have been replaced by roses and fish.
