Origin/meaning

The quartered shield shows in the first quarter the symbol of St. Mary, in the second a chestnut tree as a symbol for the resistance for the people of the Amazon. The third quarter shows a head dress, symbolising the significant presence of indigenous peoples in the territory of the Diocese. The fourth quarter symbolises the Xingu river.
