History: Formed at Leeming on May 1, 1947 by the amalgamation of Nos 13 and 54 Operational Training Units.
Official blazon
Badge: a torch Or enflamed Or/gules and a key Or in saltire the wards making the number 228 surmounted by a sword argent/gules point upwards.
Motto: Paramus = We prepare.
Origin/meaning
The Key symbolises the Key of Knowledge. It also alludes to the Badge of the No 5 School of Technical Training, which was amalgamated into the Unit. The Torch symbolises learing and the Sword the Combat the graduates may have to engage in. The Badge was granted in in October 1972.
