UNGERNDORF

State : Niederösterreich
District : Mistelbach
Incorporated into : 1972 (?) Laa an der Thaya

Wappen von Ungerndorf

Official blazon

Origin/meaning

The municipality never had arms. The above arms are the village arms designed and adopted in 2019.

The red wolf (in the image more like a lion though) is taken from the arms of the State and Diocese of Passau, as the oldest known reference to the village is in a document by Bishop Diepold of Passau in 1180. The area was at the time a posession of the bishops of Passau. The wolf holds a cellar-key (Kellerschlüssel) and is a symbol for the Kellergasse in the village.

The wheat refers to the agricultural character of the village. The bow indicates that the village probably was founded by the Hungarian Hordes during the 10th century. The bow was the favourite weapon of the Hungarians, the red and green are the colours of the Hungarian flag.
