GERA-LAND (G)

State : Thüringen
Incorporated into : 1994 Gera, Greiz

Gera.kreis.jpg

Origin/meaning :
The arms were not officially granted, but mentioned in the minutes of the council on February 2, 1991.

The golden lion and the crane are derived from the arms of the Lords of Reuss, who ruled the largest part of the district for many centuries. A small part of the district belonged to one of the Duchies of Sachsen, hence the simplified version of the arms of Sachsen in the second and third quarter. The escutcheon shows the arms of the former Free State of Thüringen.
