WICKLOW

County : Wicklow

Arms (crest) of Wicklow

Official blazon

Azure, on a mount in base vert a beacon flammant proper, on a chief wavy or a demi raven displayed sable, with the Motto: Mo radharc tar sál sínim.

Origin/meaning

The arms were certified to Wicklow Urban District Council on 1 August 1956.

The beacon referes to the name Wicklow which comes from the Norse "Vykynglo," which means “Viking’s Beacon.” This, along with the raven refers to the Viking foundations of the town. Blue represents the Irish Sea, while green stands for the coast. Blue along with yellow are Wicklow's sporting and county colours.
