HEUKELUM

Oorsprong/verklaring :
Het wapen is ooit verleend door de heren van Heukelum in de kleuren natuurlijke kleur op zilver en een grasgrond. Aangezien de gemeente geen kleuren aangaf bij de aanvraag in 1815 is het destijds in rijkskleuren verleend.

De oude heren van Heukelum waren afstammelingen van de Van Arkels, en voerden dan ook het wapen van Arkel (in zilver twee dubbelgekanteelde dwarsbalken van keel), waarop een barensteel van azuur. Dit wapen werd o.a. gevoerd door Otto van Heukelum (1363-1408). Dit wapen wordt ook gegeven in het manuscript Schoemaker als heerlijkheidswapen. Het komt ook als zodanig voor op een wapenkaart van 1622.

Van den Bergh noemt een zegel uit de 17e eeuw, waarop een poort met gedekte middentoren en een ringmuur, waarboven huizen, met 2 zijtorentjes met windvanen.

De gemeente voerde het wapen op briefpapier en andere bescheiden.
