" Van lazuur beladen met 3 kammen van goud, staande 2 en 1. Het schild vastgehouden ter wederzijde door een vogel van goud en gedekt met eene kroon van hetzelfde en elf peerlen van hetzelfde."

Oorsprong/verklaring :
Chaam is waarschijnlijk een van de maalsteden van de Franken, het zou voorkomen op een lijst uit 422. Chaam was in de 13e eeuw in bezit van de Hertog van Brabant, die het moest delen met de abdijen van Tongerloo en Thorn en de ridderorde der Tempeliers (na 1313 aan de orde van St. Jan).

Door opvolging kwam de heerlijkheid in de 15e eeuw aan de Heren van Breda, die het samenvoegden met Alphen. Later werd hieraan ook Baarle toegevoegd. Pas in 1810 werd de gemeente weer afzonderlijk.

Het wapen lijkt sprekend te zijn. Het is identiek aan het voormalige schependomszegel. De kleuren zijn oorspronkelijk zwart op goud.
